A new Canadian health law that prohibits sales of erectile dysfunction drugs has been crafted to address a persistent challenge to its effectiveness, particularly on the first attempt to sell Viagra in Canada.
In recent months, the Canadian Food and Drug Administration has issued new warning labels for drugs commonly used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED).
A new Canadian law designed to address a persistent challenge to Viagra’s efficacy and the potential for adverse health outcomes was issued by the Health Canada in November 2024. The Canadian health law is designed to protect health-care professionals, consumers, and the public from the adverse effects of erectile dysfunction drugs.
The law prohibits the sale of erectile dysfunction drugs in Canada. However, the Canadian health law has already been updated to include a new warning, requiring doctors to “take steps to prevent sexual activity for at least six months after prescription drug advertising.”
The new law also requires that the drug is not a controlled substance.
“Erectile dysfunction drugs are the healthiest treatment for men,” said Dr. John Lough, a urologist and director of the Sexual Medicine and Health Program at the Sexual Medicine and Health Program at the University of British Columbia. “The first-choice treatment for men with ED is safe, effective, and relatively inexpensive, but it is a long way from Viagra and the cost of erectile dysfunction drugs.”
Dr. Lough said the new law “prohibits the use of Viagra and other drugs, including Viagra, in any manner.”
“We think it’s important that the Food and Drug Administration has put out a public health alert for all prescription drugs for these sexual function drugs,” he said. “The new label is not a new issue. It’s just the first time the FDA has addressed it.”
The new law requires that a doctor will be asked to prescribe a drug to treat ED, including any sexual dysfunction drugs.

Erectile dysfunction drugs are the healthiest treatment for men. Erectile dysfunction drugs, such as Viagra, work by enhancing blood flow to the penis, enabling men to achieve and maintain an erection.
In addition to improving sexual function and sexual confidence, Viagra has been shown to increase testosterone levels. Erectile dysfunction drugs like Viagra do not increase testosterone levels.
Researchers have found that Viagra increases sexual desire and performance, but it does not improve sexual function or sexual satisfaction.
However, researchers found that Viagra does not increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, heart attack, or kidney disease.
Viagra was approved by the FDA in 1998 and has since become one of the most widely prescribed drugs in the United States, with more than 80 million prescriptions in 2024.
Viagra has been on the market since 1998, when it was developed and approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
Viagra has a longer half-life than other ED medications, and it is available in generic form. Viagra, a prescription medication, is available in two forms: a blue pill, which lasts up to 36 hours, and a white pill, which lasts for one hour. Viagra’s effects last for about 4 hours, compared with about six hours for erectile dysfunction drugs.
The U. S. Food and Drug Administration recently issued a warning label on the drug for the potential for an interaction with other medications and supplements.
